About the position

The Hearing Specialist position at the Commission of Pardons and Parole involves taking hearing minutes for parole and revocation hearings, entering and verifying decisions, and explaining procedures to stakeholders. This role supports the Hearing Manager during sessions and assists in training staff on hearing conduct and documentation preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Take and edit hearing minutes for parole and revocation hearings.
  • Record hearing decisions and gather information for Parole Commissioner Reviews.
  • Explain hearing procedures, issues, and appeal rights to external stakeholders and the public.
  • Prepare cases for analysis and assist in training staff on appropriate hearing conduct.
  • Provide administrative support to the Commissioners and Hearing Manager during Parole Hearing Sessions.
  • Interpret, apply, and implement policies, procedures, laws, and administrative rules.
  • Coordinate and act as a liaison with other agencies regarding appeals/hearings processes.

Requirements

  • Some knowledge of legal terminology, typically gained through work, college, or volunteer experience.
  • Some knowledge of administrative law proceedings, typically gained through relevant experience.
  • Experience with automated record systems, typically gained through one year of work experience.
  • Experience researching and interpreting laws, typically gained through one year of compliance review experience.
  • Good knowledge of computer applications, typically gained through courses and applied work experience.
  • Experience taking hearing minutes and composing/editing complex documents, typically gained through two or more years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to keyboard/type at a rate of 50 net wpm or more.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some knowledge of Atlas OMS.
  • Some knowledge of Webex.
