About the position

The Copy Editor at CNN Newsource is responsible for ensuring that all scripts distributed to affiliates meet CNN's editorial, legal, and ethical standards. This role involves editing scripts for accuracy, clarity, and user-friendliness, while also providing constructive feedback to writers and producers. The Copy Editor acts as an editorial leader, guiding a team of writers and ensuring consistency with CNN's style and legal standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all scripts distributed by CNN Newsource are accurate and adhere to CNN's standards.
• Edit copy to make scripts easy to understand, more interesting, and user-friendly.
• Act as an editorial leader in conjunction with Newsource managers.
• Lead a team of writers and provide constructive feedback about their scripts in real-time and post-shift.
• Rework scripts when necessary to meet quality standards.
• Demonstrate familiarity with CNN Stylebook and CNN Legal Standards to ensure consistency.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Journalism, Television-Film Production, Communications or related discipline preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of broadcast news writing and editing experience preferred.
• Strong editing skills, including checking accuracy, balance, language, and style.
• Ability to produce quality work quickly.
• Eager, cooperative, energetic, and team-oriented.
