About the position

The Copy Editor position at NewsNation involves proofreading and editing content for a national audience, ensuring journalistic integrity and production quality. This position is based in Chicago and is part of a new national media outlet dedicated to providing unbiased news coverage.

Responsibilities

• Proofread stories, text within videos, and social media content.
• Craft compelling and searchable headlines and subheads that inform and encourage readers to click into the story.
• Write headlines and captions on YouTube that inform and convince people to watch.
• Utilize SEO best practices.
• Edit wire and local network-affiliated content for a national audience to ensure standards for journalistic integrity and production quality are met.
• Manage social media publishing and homepage content.
• Clip broadcast segments for publishing across all digital platforms and social media channels.

Requirements

• 3+ years working as a copy editor or similar role in a major newsroom.
• Experience in national newsrooms, specifically national television newsrooms is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO).
• Experience working with content management systems like WordPress.
• Experience with social media management tools such as Social Flow.
• Experience working with video inside Anvato, BitCentral, OBS, Latakoo is a plus.
• Excellent communicator, both oral and written.
