About the position

The Substitute Teacher at Friendly House Inc. is a part-time, on-call position responsible for managing groups of children in the Children's Programs. This role involves assisting in the social development and ensuring the health and safety of children, covering for planned and unplanned absences of regular staff. The position requires flexibility, initiative, and a commitment to educational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with the Oregon Rules for Certified Childcare Centers.
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment for children enrolled in Children's Programs.
  • Demonstrate good judgment to ensure children's health and safety.
  • Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children and their families.
  • Maintain responsibility for a group of up to 15 children, sharing responsibility for groups of up to 20 with another staff member.
  • Follow policies to identify and relate to each child with courtesy and respect.
  • Maintain appropriate staff to student ratios (1:15 or less).
  • Model appropriate positive language and emotional skills for children.
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation according to Oregon law.
  • Share responsibility for daily classroom setup and cleanup with teaching staff.
  • Interact positively and respectfully with staff and adults.
  • Check in with the classroom teacher to ensure continuity of expectations.
  • Help prepare and set up snacks and meals when required.
  • Ensure classroom spaces are kept clean and organized.
  • Routinely clean and sanitize frequently touched surfaces and materials.
  • Track essential paperwork and information daily.
  • Notify the Children's Program Director of any incidents or health hazards.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • At least 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of training in relevant fields or one year of full-time experience in a certified daycare center.
  • Obtain an Oregon Child Care Food Handler Card within 60 days of employment.
  • Current first aid and pediatric CPR training certificate within 60 days of employment.
  • Current enrollment in CCLD's Central Background Registry (CBR).
  • Completion of a background check with ORCHARDS (BCU).
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
