About the position

The Copywriter and Media Specialist at Ohio Dominican University is responsible for managing media strategies and developing relationships with media outlets to promote the university and its programs. This role involves creating, writing, editing, and producing marketing materials to support student enrollment and fundraising efforts. The position requires collaboration with various university departments and serves as a public-facing role, engaging with faculty, students, staff, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage proactive and reactive media strategy to promote the university.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with media outlets.
  • Create, write, edit, and produce marketing and promotional materials.
  • Support the Office of Marketing and Public Relations in various communications programming.
  • Collaborate with university colleagues to provide marketing communications strategy and creative guidance.
  • Manage and execute a comprehensive public relations strategy for the university.
  • Identify and develop compelling advertisements across print, broadcast, and digital media.
  • Work with vendors and advertising partners to support marketing initiatives.
  • Attend university events and meetings as required.
  • Write, edit, and coordinate production of marketing materials for various formats.
  • Produce a weekly newsletter for the university community, The ODU Weekly.
  • Provide speechwriting assistance to the university President as needed.
  • Develop and write news releases and media advisories to amplify university messaging.
  • Pitch stories to external media to raise awareness of the university.
  • Respond to media inquiries and serve as university spokesperson when needed.
  • Chronicle media coverage and manage crisis communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, English, or a related field.
  • 5 - 7 years of professional experience in marketing/public relations.
  • Superior writing, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience in digital marketing is required.
  • Proven ability to work well with the media and achieve media coverage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in Higher Education is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in crisis communications.
  • Familiarity with social media marketing strategies.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $50.9K - $64.5K per year.
  • Full-time position with salary and exempt status.
