About the position

Midtown Athletic Club is seeking an experienced freelance copywriter to enhance the effectiveness of campaign messaging directed at both current and prospective members. The role involves developing written messaging, including taglines for monthly campaigns, and has the potential for further brand language development and SEO content assistance across the website. The ideal candidate will have a passion for writing and strong communication skills, with the goal of driving membership sales conversion and increasing member participation across the club's locations.

Responsibilities

  • Writing clear and concise copy for print and digital that adheres to the overall brand strategy.
  • Interpreting creative briefs to develop concepts for execution.
  • Researching and understanding industry trends and target audiences through online searches, reviews of existing research, and interviews with subject-matter experts.
  • Writing original copy and editing content for a range of marketing and communications materials.
  • Collaborating with a team of creative staff, from concept development to delivery of final product.
  • Presenting copy concepts and final deliverables to the internal team.
  • Revising copy based on internal feedback.

Requirements

  • Four or more years of professional copywriting experience, with an excellent portfolio of work.
  • Excellent research, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability.
  • Strong editorial, proofreading, and writing skills.
  • Experience with SEO copywriting best practices.
  • Experience with social media and content marketing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Passion for writing and an interest in luxury fitness branding.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in journalism, English, communications, or related discipline.
  • Proofreading experience and familiarity with standard style guides.
  • Experience with content management systems.
  • Keen eye for detail and appreciation of great design.
  • Fluency in Canadian French or Spanish.
