About the position

The Copywriter I position at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is a full-time role focused on enhancing the mission of AgriLife through educational development and engagement. The primary responsibility of the Copywriter is to create compelling content that drives traffic and conversions on the revenue-generating platforms managed by AgriLife Educational Development and Engagement (EDE). This role requires a creative individual who can write and edit content for various products and projects, including web content, product descriptions, promotional materials, emails, and social media posts. The Copywriter will collaborate closely with design teams, service centers, creative services, and subject matter experts to brainstorm ideas, develop concepts, and articulate effective messaging. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, a creative background, and a passion for learning new technologies. They will be responsible for producing SEO-friendly content that is optimized for conversion, ensuring that all written materials align with the brand's voice and style guidelines. Additionally, the Copywriter will conduct research, including interviews with subject matter experts, to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the content produced. This position is integral to the business development group and aims to create engaging and personalized copy that resonates with target audiences. Candidates should be prepared to adapt their writing style based on the industry and audience, and they will be expected to stay current with editing guidelines and best practices. The role also involves building and maintaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to align with organizational goals and recommend improvements for onsite personalization and product enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit compelling content for web, product descriptions, promotional materials, email, social media, and advertising.
  • Produce well-written content that is SEO friendly and optimized for conversion.
  • Write high-quality product descriptions and provide supporting content.
  • Assist with creating product description guidelines and copywriting best practices.
  • Adapt copy voice, style, and other characteristics of messaging based on the industry, target audience, and intended action.
  • Stay current on the appropriate style guidelines and brand voice for consistent messaging.
  • Conduct interviews with subject matter experts and team members to ensure accuracy, validity, and purpose of copy content.
  • Research and understand target audiences and their needs through online searches, reviews of existing research, interviews, and in-person meetings.
  • Create, build, and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to align with organizational and unit goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop engaging and personalized copy content.
  • Recommend improvements for onsite personalization, product, and event enhancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or other applicable field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of editing guidelines and standards.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents and handbooks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience writing copy for product descriptions, landing pages, and promotional campaigns via web, email, and social media.
  • Hands-on experience working with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or other email management platforms.
  • Experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
  • Experience with content management systems.
  • Keen eye for detail and appreciation of great design.
  • Experience proofreading and utilizing style guides.
