About the position

The copywriter plays a crucial role within Dillard's in-house creative department, responsible for creating compelling advertising copy that promotes Dillard's merchandise across various advertising platforms. This position is based at the Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR, and is not a remote role. The copywriter will collaborate closely with both the copy and graphic design teams to produce engaging content for a variety of advertising pieces, including emails, signage, direct mail, and more. In this role, the copywriter will be tasked with proofreading their work to ensure factual and grammatical accuracy, producing all content in accordance with Dillard's established copy and legal standards, and adhering to strict deadlines. A strong understanding of Dillard's brands, customer profiles, and broader fashion industry trends is essential for success in this position. The copywriter will need to stay informed about current events, advertising trends, and popular culture to create relevant and appealing content that resonates with the target audience.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with copy and graphic design teams to write copy for Dillard's advertising pieces, including emails, signs, direct mail, etc.
  • Proofs work for factual and grammatical accuracy.
  • Produces all work in accordance with Dillard's copy and legal standards, while meeting all deadlines.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of Dillard's brands, customer profiles and broader fashion industry trends.

Requirements

  • 1 year writing or editing copy for a publication or advertising.
  • A degree in journalism, English, advertising, communication or a related subject.
  • Accuracy and a strong eye for detail are absolutely essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Should be self-motivated and highly organized.
  • Must understand the different language styles that appeal to various target customers and craft headlines and copy that appeal to the customer on an emotional level.
  • Must be comfortable working under tight deadlines.
  • Should possess an interest in fashion, commerce, popular culture, current events, advertising trends, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred candidates will possess working knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
