About the position

Whatnot is seeking a Lead Copywriter to join its creative team. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing the brand voice across various marketing channels, leading impactful campaigns, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance the company's cultural presence. The Lead Copywriter will oversee the creative process from brainstorming to delivery, ensuring high standards of quality and relevance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of impactful copy, creative campaigns, and activations across brand and performance marketing, ensuring consistency with our brand voice and creative vision.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to craft cohesive narratives that connect with our audiences and resonate culturally.
  • Oversee end-to-end creative processes, from initial brainstorms to final delivery, maintaining high standards for quality and relevance.
  • Stay informed on industry shifts, category and competitive trends, and audience preferences to keep our messaging fresh, engaging, and culturally relevant.
  • Use data and performance insights to refine copy and optimize messaging.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior writers, freelancers, and agency partners, fostering a collaborative environment of creative excellence.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in copywriting, with a mix of brand and performance-focused projects.
  • Proven ability to craft both short-form, direct-response copy and longer-form, narrative-driven content.
  • Strategic and intentional with words, balancing creativity with the 'why' behind each choice.
  • Passion for exploring how brands can intersect with culture.
  • Strong understanding of digital advertising, content marketing, and how messaging influences the customer journey.
  • Adept at using data and metrics to inform creative decisions and improve copy performance.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working closely with designers, marketers, and product teams.
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to pivot and adapt as priorities shift.
  • Naturally curious and proactive, with a growth mindset and a high standard for quality.
  • Thrive on feedback, view it as a tool for growth, and are motivated to consistently elevate your work.
