About the position

The Corporate Controller at M-D Building Products is a key leadership role within the finance team, responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, maintaining financial records, and managing the accounting department. This position involves direct collaboration with the Senior Vice President of Finance to report on financial performance, implement process improvements, and ensure compliance with financial regulations. Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and lead all accounting operations, including oversight of General Ledger and Accounts Payable functions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial data to ensure precise reporting of individual and consolidated business performance.
  • Support the annual budgeting process by consolidating input from all business units and producing detailed schedules for the FP&A team.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust financial controls, and establish new policies as needed to ensure strong governance and risk management.
  • Provide dynamic leadership to accounting and finance teams, fostering an environment of trust, productivity, and accountability.
  • Prepare and analyze actual versus budgeted results, focusing on revenue and expense line items to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Business Unit Controllers to ensure adherence to corporate directives, internal controls, and provide valuable financial insights with KPI measurement.
  • Continuously evaluate current accounting operations, proposing and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Mentor and develop direct reports and staff, overseeing scheduling, performance reviews, staff motivation, training, and career development initiatives.
  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements, including the accurate filing of all necessary tax returns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field (or equivalent).
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience within organizations with revenues exceeding $200M, preferably across multiple Strategic Business Units (SBUs).
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, with a strong understanding of US GAAP and internal control best practices.
  • Proven expertise in cost accounting and overhead rate management, with familiarity in navigating complex, multi-company operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of leading successful process improvement and change management initiatives.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team management, and interpersonal abilities, fostering collaboration and results in cross-functional environments.
