About the position

As a key member of the Management Team, the Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting. This role involves overseeing all general accounting and job cost activities, and providing motivation and direction to the finance staff. The Controller collaborates with the Management Team to enhance financial tools and processes that support company growth. This position requires a strong understanding of financial regulations and compliance, as well as the ability to implement effective cost control processes on projects. The Controller will also coordinate audits and work closely with tax firms on tax return preparation, serving as the main contact for these services. Additionally, the role includes monitoring cash forecasts versus actual cash positions, optimizing working capital, and assessing exposure and risk. The Controller will oversee the financials of the Canadian office and ensure that all financial reporting is submitted timely to the parent company using Magnitude, the parent company reporting software.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and organize the finance department to support business unit objectives and the sales and operations teams.
  • Provide guidance to finance department members, including Staff Accountant, Project Administrator, Contract Administrator, and Payroll Administrator.
  • Ensure compliance with US financial laws and regulations.
  • Implement and maintain a reliable cost control process on projects.
  • Coordinate monthly cost reviews with the operations team.
  • Analyze and report monthly, quarterly, and annual closures, forecasts, budgets, and financial plans to the local management team.
  • Submit timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the parent company using Magnitude (parent company reporting software).
  • Liaise transparently with Group headquarters and other Business Units on inquiries or issues, responding within the requested timeframe.
  • Coordinate audits and work with the tax firm on tax return preparation, serving as the main contact for these services.
  • Monitor cash forecasts versus actual cash position, optimize working capital, and assess exposure and risk.
  • Review overhead costs, identify risks and opportunities on projects, manage business plans, feasibility studies, and investment proposals.
  • Oversee financials of the Canadian office.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in accounting management for a construction company.
  • Accounting or Finance degree required.
  • CPA Certification preferred (or applicable non-US certification).
  • Verifiable supervisory experience.
  • Strong analytical skills required.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Vista Viewpoint or other similar accounting software.
