About the position

The Corporate Financial Analyst position at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is a critical role that provides essential financial reports and analyses to support senior management in planning and evaluating requirements to meet financial objectives related to strategic investments and acquisitions. This position involves performing market research, competitive analysis, valuation, financial modeling services, and due diligence efforts. The analyst will prepare and document complex financial analysis projects that are highly non-routine, ensuring that all financial data is accurately extracted and presented. Additionally, the role includes reviewing and preparing financial statements and forecasts, which are vital for informed decision-making within the organization. In this full-time position, the analyst will work on-site at the Columbia, SC office, adhering to a standard schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The analyst will be responsible for reviewing and researching strategic corporate finance projects, including mergers and acquisitions and investment opportunities, as assigned by executive staff. The role requires performing complex statistical, cost, and financial analyses of data to determine the costs associated with various business activities. The analyst will interpret financial transactions to assist management in making economic or business decisions, evaluating past financial performance, and projecting future financial probabilities. The Corporate Financial Analyst will also complete special projects such as financial statement analysis, impairment analysis using discounted cash flow techniques, audited financial reviews, vendor analyses, forecasting, general ledger reconciliations, and the preparation of AD HOC and custom reports. This position is ideal for individuals who possess strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of corporate finance concepts, as well as the ability to communicate complex information effectively to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and researches strategic corporate finance projects such as mergers and acquisitions, investment opportunities, and other projects as assigned by executive staff.
  • Performs complex statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data to determine costs of business activities.
  • Interprets financial transactions to assist management in making economic or business decisions, determining past financial performance, and projecting financial probabilities.
  • Reviews and/or prepares financial statements, builds financial models, and researches potential acquisitions for areas of the company without appointed accounting staff.
  • Completes special projects such as financial statement analysis, impairment analysis requiring discounted cash flow techniques, audited financial review, vendor analysis, forecasting, general ledger reconciliations, and preparation of AD HOC and custom reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related field.
  • 7 years of financial analysis experience with a bachelor's degree, OR 3 years of financial analysis experience with a master's degree and CPA license.
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to compile complex information, design reports, and analyze data.
  • Excellent presentation, organization, and research skills.
  • Academic and practical knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent analytical and modeling skills, with in-depth knowledge of financial statement analysis and a strong understanding of corporate finance concepts such as discounted cash flow and valuation methodologies.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
