About the position

The Corporate & Legal Operations Paralegal plays a crucial role in providing paralegal services, legal operations, and administrative support to the Legal Department of the American Kennel Club. This position is essential for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the department while maintaining a privileged and confidential environment. The paralegal will regularly interface with the Legal Department's internal business clients, facilitating communication and support for various legal processes and documentation. In this role, the paralegal will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including the review and preparation of contracts and legal documents, the organization and maintenance of department files, and the management of department calendars. The paralegal will utilize legal management systems such as High Q and DocuSign to manage contracts, track critical dates, and ensure compliance with contract review policies. This includes acting as a point-of-contact for internal business clients, educating them on system usage, and ensuring that all security protocols are followed. The paralegal will also facilitate the corporate contracts review process, performing initial reviews of contract requests, maintaining records of contract statuses, and assisting attorneys in resolving compliance questions. Additionally, the paralegal will assist in preparing for Trial Boards and Event Committee Appeals, coordinating logistics, and managing communications with Trial Board members. The role requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive and time-sensitive materials effectively. Overall, the Corporate & Legal Operations Paralegal is a vital support role that requires a blend of legal knowledge, administrative skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provides paralegal services, legal operations, and administrative support to all attorneys on a privileged and confidential basis.
  • Reviews and prepares contracts, documents, case and matter binders, and other projects.
  • Prepares, revises, and finalizes sensitive correspondence.
  • Organizes and maintains Department files and manages department calendars.
  • Utilizes High Q, DocuSign, and other legal management systems for contract management.
  • Facilitates and manages the corporate contracts review process, ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Assists in complex, sensitive, and confidential situations, producing time-sensitive materials.
  • Schedules and organizes onsite and offsite meetings, Trial Boards, and events.
  • Coordinates logistics for Trial Boards, including securing court reporters and preparing materials.
  • Maintains files for corporate insurance applications and assists in processing claims.
  • Answers calls to the Legal Department, screens inquiries, and resolves matters as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or better is required.
  • Paralegal Certification is required.
  • Advanced technical skills in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office systems, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based legal management platforms such as SharePoint and High Q.
  • Strong background in handling privileged and confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to proofread material for grammatical and typographical errors.
  • Proven capability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage projects and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly demeanor.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $70,000 - $80,000/year based on skills and experience.
