About the position

The Payroll Tax Specialist is responsible for providing support and compliance with the organization's payroll processing. This includes managing tax filings, supporting audits, and monitoring compliance of practices with federal, state, and local regulations. This position will perform account setups and ensure timely payments are processed for all jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Register and maintain payroll tax accounts across various jurisdictions while keeping compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Prepare, review, and file periodic payroll tax returns (i.e., 941, 940, W2s)
  • Reconcile tax liabilities and ensure timely remittance of payroll taxes
  • Resolve discrepancies with taxing authorities and internal stakeholders
  • Generate regular compliance reports and ensure organized and accurate payroll tax records are maintained
  • Conduct internal reviews of payroll tax accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies proactively
  • Assist as needed with the payroll processing activities (i.e., importing/exporting time, running payroll, sending direct deposit and positive pay files)
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the payroll policies and procedures, with specification in the systems application area

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. Equivalent training and work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 3 years of experience in payroll processing with experience in payroll tax compliance
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations at federal, state, and local levels

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in payroll systems and electronic processing processes (ex. ADP, SAP Payroll, etc.)
  • Strong level of understanding with using Microsoft Office tools, including Excel (i.e., vlookups and pivot tables)
  • Ability to work with a team and collaborate to reach solutions
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across multiple specialties and teams
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
