About the position

The Corporate Purchasing Manager at Smithfield is responsible for overseeing the procurement of packaging and ingredients, managing the supply base for both direct and indirect purchases, and ensuring cost-effective purchasing practices. This role focuses on maintaining quality, on-time delivery, and effective inventory control while monitoring pricing trends and implementing cost-saving initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Data collection for Request for Quotation (RFQ)/Request for Proposal (RFP).
  • Direct and influence multi-functional departments to agree on cost savings projects.
  • Recommendations on vendor managed inventory levels.
  • Assessment of aging materials and obsolete material review and disposition.
  • Evaluate and approve vendors/materials to support new product innovation.
  • Responsible for key performance indicators.
  • Responsible for value and supply chain improvements, including presentation of revenue enhancement ideas.
  • New item set up and system management.
  • Pricing & contract management in coordination with Strategic Sourcing contracts.
  • Implementation and enforcement of Purchasing Policy and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership.
  • CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) certified or APICS certification preferred.
  • Capability to synthesize data from multiple resources to build actionable recommendations.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience with SAP and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Ability to communicate and present information clearly and effectively with peers and executive leadership.
