About the position

This position at Smithfield Foods is responsible for managing the purchasing of packaging and ingredients, ensuring cost-effective procurement while maintaining quality and timely delivery. The role involves data collection for RFQs/RFPs, vendor management, and inventory control, with a focus on achieving cost savings and enhancing supply chain efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Data collection for Request for Quotation (RFQ)/Request for Proposal (RFP).
  • Direct and influence multi-functional departments to mutually agree on cost savings projects.
  • Recommendations on vendor managed inventory levels.
  • Assessment of aging materials and obsolete material review and disposition.
  • Evaluate and approve vendors/materials to support new product innovation.
  • Responsible for key performance indicators.
  • Responsible for value and supply chain improvements, including presentation of all revenue enhancement ideas.
  • New item set up and system management.
  • Pricing & contract management in coordination with Strategic Sourcing contracts.
  • Implementation and enforcement of Purchasing Policy and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership.
  • Capability to synthesize data from multiple resources to build actionable recommendations.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, works well under pressure.
  • Ability to negotiate.
  • Demonstrated experience with SAP and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Ability to communicate and present information clearly and effectively with peers and executive leadership.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) certified or APICS certification.
