About the position

The position of Affordable Housing Paralegal at Nelson Mullins involves providing essential support in a fast-paced Commercial Real Estate practice. The role focuses on all phases of real estate transactions, including organizational structuring, due diligence, financing negotiation, and closing, with a specific emphasis on affordable housing projects. The paralegal will collaborate with attorneys and other team members to ensure smooth transaction processes and compliance with legal standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review and abstract purchase agreements and ground leases.
  • Prepare critical dates memos and closing checklists.
  • Review and analyze title commitments, underlying title instruments, and ALTA surveys.
  • Draft summaries and objection letters related to title reviews.
  • Organize and fulfill conditions required to meet title requirements.
  • Conduct research on real property tax and ownership information.
  • Coordinate real estate closings and prepare closing documents and statements.
  • Conduct closings and disbursements, monitoring the recording of documents.
  • Prepare and issue title commitments, title pro formas with endorsements, and final title insurance policies.
  • Manage post-closing matters and handle commercial real estate leasing matters.
  • Draft, review, abstract, and manage commercial leases, amendments, and ancillary documents.
  • Coordinate with clients and title companies to facilitate the execution of lease documents.

Requirements

  • Experience in title and survey review.
  • Previous exposure to real estate transactions in a law firm setting.
  • Experience with commercial real estate leasing is helpful.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university (preferred).
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program (preferred).
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for educational qualifications.
