About the position
Houston Community College (HCC) is composed of 14 Centers of Excellence and numerous satellite centers that serve the diverse communities in the Greater Houston area by preparing individuals to live and work in an increasingly international and technological society. HCC is one of the country's largest singly-accredited, open-admission, community colleges offering associate degrees, certificates, workforce training, and lifelong learning opportunities. The opportunity is for a tech-savvy, process improvement-focused Student Champion who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life, and community service. The role involves developing partnerships with communities and individuals, ensuring the student experience is prioritized in planning and execution, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Deliver classes at client locations/facilities
- Customize training content and format to fit client's objectives
- Inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment
- Repair, maintain, and operate all relevant machines and tools
- Attend certification classes as necessary to comply with licensing requirements
- Meet deadlines for reports and other required paperwork
- Present innovative ideas for new curricula and programs that combine traditional schedules with new demands from industry schedules
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required (or eight years of experience may be substituted for the degree)
- A minimum of three years subject-related industry experience required
- Excellent presentation skills in both oral and written communication
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment
- Ability to teach day or evening classes at various sites around the city
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Self-disciplined with the ability to effectively manage others
Nice-to-haves
- Certification in construction trades (i.e., Master Welder, Master Electrician, etc.)
- Community college, university teaching, or corporate training experience preferred
