The Corporate Trainer for Trades Training - OSHA Safety at Houston Community College (HCC) is a pivotal role designed for an innovative and tech-savvy individual who is passionate about enhancing the student experience through effective training and community engagement. In this role, the trainer will utilize their expertise in construction trades to develop and implement training programs that not only meet certification requirements but also inspire and motivate students. The trainer will be expected to stay current with developments in the field, continuously updating their knowledge and skills to provide the most relevant and effective training possible. This includes attending necessary certification classes and maintaining proficiency in the use of various tools and technologies relevant to the trades. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and planning skills, enabling them to manage multiple training sessions across different locations effectively. They will also demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of students, ensuring an inclusive learning environment that accommodates various learning styles and needs. The trainer will play a crucial role in fostering partnerships with community organizations and industry stakeholders, further enhancing the educational offerings of HCC and contributing to the overall success of its students.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classes at client locations and facilities.
  • Customize training content and format to fit client objectives.
  • Inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
  • Attend certification classes as necessary to comply with licensing requirements.
  • Repair, maintain, and operate relevant machines and tools.
  • Climb ladders to retrieve and replace materials and supplies as needed.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds as required for training activities.
  • Teach day or evening classes at various sites around the city.
  • Utilize current technology and software programs for training delivery.
  • Meet deadlines for reports and other required paperwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, or eight (8) years of experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • Minimum of three (3) years subject-related industry experience required.
  • Certification in construction trades preferred, such as Master Welder or Master Electrician.
  • Experience in community college, university teaching, or corporate training preferred.
  • Excellent presentation skills in both oral and written communication.
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment and communicate effectively with various populations.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
