About the position

As a Corporate Welding Specialist / Trainer at Bechtel, you will play a crucial role in implementing and maintaining the corporate welding and non-destructive examination (NDE) program across the organization. This position involves overseeing global construction field welding programs and providing specialized welding engineering support to ensure compliance with all relevant codes and site requirements. You will be responsible for managing, training, and qualifying welders in the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Short Circuit Transfer (STT) process, ensuring adherence to Bechtel's safe work processes. Additionally, you will assist in the welder testing and training facility and maintain control over filler metals used in welding operations. Your responsibilities will include providing technical assistance to field engineers, discipline superintendents, and craftspeople, as well as overseeing the Project Field Welding program. You will implement the project Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program and quality control measures, ensuring that all welding activities meet the highest standards. You will also manage the welding test shop to ensure that high-quality welders are being tested and qualified. A strong understanding of Bechtel's corporate welding procedures and standards is essential, as is the ability to coordinate and support the project NDE program. In this role, you will verify materials, workmanship, and compliance with specification and code requirements. You will interface with the Welding & NDE Services manager to receive direction on assigned work tasks and will be expected to possess a high level of practical welding skills across various processes, including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and GMAW. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting engineering designs and resolving issues with engineering teams or fabricators. Coaching lower-level engineers within the welding discipline will be part of your duties, ensuring that both employee and organizational goals are met. You will maintain a weld inspection tracking system using TEAMWorks/WITS applications and manage welder qualifications and stencils effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the corporate welding & NDE program.
  • Maintain global construction field welding programs.
  • Provide specialized welding engineering support to ensure compliance with codes and site requirements.
  • Oversee and maintain the Project Field Welding program.
  • Manage and maintain the welding test shop to ensure high-quality welders are tested.
  • Provide technical assistance to field engineers, discipline superintendents, and crafts.
  • Coordinate and support the project NDE program.
  • Support crafts in meeting quality requirements to maintain cost and schedule.
  • Verify materials, workmanship, and specification/code requirements.
  • Interface with the Welding & NDE Services manager for direction on work tasks.
  • Troubleshoot engineering design issues with engineering and/or fabricators.
  • Coach lower-level engineers within the welding discipline.
  • Maintain weld inspection tracking system using TEAMWorks/WITS applications.
  • Manage, issue, and maintain welder qualifications and welder stencils.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree + 4 Years Industry Related Experience, or Associate's Degree + 6 Years Industry Related Experience.
  • In lieu of degree, must have HS Diploma / GED + 10 Years Industry Related Experience.
  • Must meet the training and experience requirements to acquire the Bechtel Level II VT NDE Certifications.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes of construction is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the GMAW (STT) welding process and ability to train welders is essential.
  • Ability to manage and maintain filler metal control.
  • Ensure welders are qualified to perform welding for assigned tasks.
