About the position

Case Managers perform regular periodic classification reviews, needs assessments, plans, job assignments, program referrals and regular scheduled one-on-one contact for the purposes of correctional and/or motivational counseling. This position requires specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Responsibilities

• Provide transitional information; assist with housing and recommendations for the classification upon inmate review; assist with onsite activities.
• Effectively communicate with other staff, inmates and the general public.
• Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders, who can become physically violent and verbally abusive.
• Capable of defending oneself against attack; perform crisis interventions to include suicide prevention.
• Prepare written reports which accurately reflect data reviewed by various sources.
• Review, analyze, and evaluate various documents and behavior data gathered from interviews, written documentation and personal observation.

Requirements

• Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
• Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
