About the position

This position is located at Craggy Correctional Center located in Asheville, NC. Craggy Correctional Center is a minimum and medium custody facility for male offenders. Employees in this class carry a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of inmates, such as inmate work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.

Responsibilities

  • Carry a caseload of inmates and provide supportive counseling.
  • Conduct assessments and develop case plans for inmates.
  • Answer and follow up on inmate questions and problems.
  • Make recommendations to the classification committee.
  • Assist in major dynamic programs for inmate rehabilitation.
  • Coordinate major or specialized programs such as work assignments, work release, education, or recreation.
  • Plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community.

Requirements

  • Documented knowledge of Supportive Counseling Techniques.
  • Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or a High school or GED diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
