Responsibilities

• Carry a caseload of male medium custody level offenders.
• Provide supportive counseling and address questions and problems of offenders.
• Make recommendations to the classification committee.
• Assist in coordinating major programs for offender rehabilitation, including work assignments and education.
• Conduct continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area.
• Prepare written reports and forms based on accurate information from various sources.
• Demonstrate and instruct offenders in the safe use of tools and equipment.
• Review and analyze documents and behavioral data from interviews and observations.
• Perform crisis intervention and routine counseling, including suicide prevention.

Requirements

• Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques.
• Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation, or a related field, or a high school diploma with two years of custody experience.
• Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
