About the position

This position is located at Pamlico Correctional Institution in Bayboro, NC. This is a medium custody facility housing approximately 575 male offenders. Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor this position is responsible for carrying a caseload of offenders, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering, and following up on offender questions and problems. This is a certified position, and employees may be subject to assist in any certified capacity as needed, which includes the Custody and Administrative Services. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Providing recommendations to the classification committee.
  • Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinating major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as offender work assignments, work release, education or recreation.
  • Planning and coordinating transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community.

Requirements

  • Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques.
  • Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
