About the position

The Correctional Food Service Coordinator is responsible for overseeing food service operations within a correctional facility. This role includes managing ingredient procurement, meal preparation, serving, and delivery, while ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. The coordinator will supervise and train incarcerated individuals, maintain inventory accuracy, and uphold departmental security protocols. Additionally, the position involves direct supervision of incarcerated individuals, evaluating their performance, and fostering a pro-social environment.

Responsibilities

• Order, receive, and issue all Food Service supplies to maintain adequate inventories.
• Supervise and train incarcerated individuals in food service operations.
• Prepare raw ingredients and follow recipes to create nutritionally adequate meals.
• Take accurate inventories prior to meal service and assemble medically prescribed diets.
• Deliver food and supplies to various locations while maintaining sanitation and temperature.
• Provide direct supervision to incarcerated individuals in the Food Service department.
• Evaluate work performance and behavior of incarcerated individuals and provide instruction.
• Maintain a safe environment by following security protocols and conducting random searches.
• Document food temperatures and maintain sanitation standards in food service operations.
• Attend Food Service meetings and complete required training activities.

Requirements

• Two years of full-time work experience in mass food production in a commercial, military, hospital, or institutional food services setting.
• A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience in food services, with thirty semester hours of accredited coursework in dietetics, nutrition, or food management equating to one year of experience.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch including one year of full-time work as a Cook 1, Cook 2, or Baker.
