About The Position

The Correctional Health Professional is a part-time role responsible for providing medical care and support to inmates in a jail facility. Requirements

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Paramedic, Certified Medical Assistant, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily and make medical judgments in emergencies.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written communication.
  • Ability to operate computers and analyze data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in corrections facility medical clinics.
  • Knowledge of first aid, pharmacology, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Responsibilities

  • Remain on-call to respond to emergency situations at the jail facility.
  • Perform medical screening and interviewing of inmates to determine their health needs.
  • Handle medication, including screening, administration, and data entry.
  • Assess inmates' medical needs and arrange for or provide treatment, including wound treatment and suture/staple removal.
  • Perform PPD skin tests on inmates and department employees, reviewing and entering results into the computer.
  • Schedule appointments for inmates to see physicians, psychiatrists, or dentists as needed.
  • Assist doctors with examinations and medication administration.
  • Maintain medical security and safety procedures for inmates and staff.
  • Prepare and administer medications and supervise self-administration.
  • Prepare health care evaluations, instructions, and counseling for inmates.
  • Maintain inventory of and order medical equipment, supplies, and drugs, ensuring security control.
  • Monitor blood sugar and blood pressure on hypertensive and diabetic inmates, administering insulin and other injections as necessary.
  • Answer inquiries from inmates and staff.
  • Maintain medical charts, records, and other required documentation, including requests for medical record transfers of new inmates.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area.
  • Request special diets for inmates as necessary.
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing of records.
