About The Position

The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking highly motivated and talented individuals for the positions of Correctional Officer 1 (CO1) and Correctional Officer 2 (CO2) at the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC) in Connell, WA. The Coyote Ridge Corrections Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is comprised of two complexes: the Main Security Complex (MSC) and the Minimum Security Unit (MSU). The MSC is a 2,048 bed facility that houses incarcerated individuals with Medium and MI3 Custody, while the MSU is a 600 bed facility that houses assisted living and MI2 Custody incarcerated individuals. This is a work/program oriented facility that offers many educational, vocational, and self-help programs. On-call staff may have the opportunity to work an average of 32-40 hours per week, although the positions have no minimum hour guarantee. Successful candidates will attend the earliest Training Academy available and will be considered for full-time permanent and/or temporary vacancies as they occur.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • The legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety and security in an adult correctional facility.
  • Assist in controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities and movement of incarcerated individuals.
  • Maintain security of the institution and control movement into, out of, and within the institution.
  • Serve as a positive role model and work with incarcerated individuals to help them become productive members of society.
  • Use interpersonal and communication skills to correct and counteract criminal thinking.
  • Complete Correctional Worker Core (CWC) training, a six-week academy for all correctional workers.
