About The Position

The Correctional Officer at Bainbridge Probation/Substance Abuse Treatment Center is responsible for maintaining the custody and security of incarcerated offenders, ensuring order within the facility, and enforcing institutional policies and state laws. This role involves direct supervision of offenders, conducting inspections, and responding to emergencies, all while promoting public safety and rehabilitation opportunities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Any combination of training and experience that meets the minimum standards of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.).

Responsibilities

• Maintain custody and security of prisoners and other incarcerated offenders.
• Enforce institutional policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.
• Escort offenders in transit and during temporary leaves.
• Guard facility entrances to screen visitors.
• Handle and train canines for tracking, search and rescue, and detection of contraband.
• Inspect, inventory, and maintain physical control of keys, tools, weapons, and related equipment.
• Observe conduct and behavior of offenders to prevent disturbances and escapes.
• Oversee offenders during work assignments, meals, and recreation periods.
• Patrol assigned areas and report any problems.
• Prepare admission, program, release, transfer, and other reports.
• Respond to emergencies and take offenders into custody as needed.
• Transport offenders to and from correctional facilities.
