About the position

The Prince George's County Department of Corrections is seeking qualified individuals to fill multiple permanent full-time Correctional Officer Private positions, (Grade D-21) for its January 2025 Correctional Officer Entrance Level Training Academy. Correctional Officers play a crucial role in the criminal justice system by providing quality inmate care in a secure environment while positively impacting their community. They are responsible for maintaining security, safety, and control within the County facility, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and that the rights and safety of inmates are upheld. In this role, Correctional Officers must demonstrate effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, to interact with inmates and other staff members. They are required to apply interpersonal skills and techniques to direct inmates, ensuring compliance with facility rules and regulations. Additionally, Correctional Officers must exercise good judgment in controlling inmate behavior, making quick and informed decisions in stressful and emergency situations. The position demands a high level of professionalism and the ability to remain calm under pressure, as well as a commitment to upholding the values of the Department of Corrections and serving the community with integrity.
