About the position

The Correctional Program Officer serves as a primary resource for the Bureau of Prisons' Executive Staff regarding the residential reentry of federal offenders and detention services. This role involves providing expert advice, establishing professional relationships with external entities, and ensuring the effective implementation of community reentry initiatives. The officer plays a crucial role in fostering a humane and secure environment for individuals transitioning back into society.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary resource person for the Bureau of Prisons' Executive Staff on residential reentry and detention services.
  • Provide information and advice to senior officials regarding community reentry of offenders.
  • Serve as the agency's liaison with external entities concerning residential reentry initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with high-ranking officials in governmental agencies and the academic community.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of residential reentry and detention services programs.
  • Provide technical assistance to external entities as needed.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
  • Thorough knowledge of correctional techniques and the ability to work effectively with inmates.
  • Experience in supervisory or administrative duties within a correctional program.
  • Understanding of custody, treatment, training, and release of inmates in penal institutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing national policies for federal offenders' placement in residential reentry centers.
  • Experience in oversight and training for Bureau of Prisons institutions.
  • Experience in designing systems for data collection and analysis related to program needs.
