About the position

The Correctional Sentence Specialist - SES position at Madison Correctional Institution is responsible for calculating and verifying the release dates of inmates, ensuring compliance with Florida Statutes and case laws. The role involves supervising the preparation of release documents, communicating with criminal justice agencies, and maintaining accurate inmate records. The specialist also trains new employees and oversees data entry operations, ensuring the integrity of the inmate information system.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate release dates for inmates based on sentence structure.
  • Verify computer calculations of tentative release dates using manual procedures.
  • Communicate with local Criminal Justice Agencies to clarify sentence structures and confirm outstanding charges.
  • Supervise the preparation of documents related to inmate releases.
  • Ensure authorization is received from the Admission and Release authority for inmate releases.
  • Advise inmates on eligibility for restoration of civil rights and other pertinent instructions.
  • Prepare vouchers for transportation tickets for eligible inmates.
  • Verify accuracy of release dates and check for pending matters before release.
  • Notify relevant parties of pending releases, including judges and law enforcement.
  • Assist in training new employees on database usage and data entry responsibilities.
  • Supervise daily maintenance of the institutional inmate record and database.
  • Prepare affidavits and testify in court or administrative hearings as needed.
  • Interview inmates regarding questions and concerns about their sentences.
  • Coordinate inter-state agreements on detainer actions and prepare documents for release.
  • Supervise preparation of inmate files for transfer to other institutions.
  • Develop and evaluate procedures for inmate record maintenance.

Requirements

  • Experience in supervising staff and managing operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in auditing, analyzing, and interpreting data.
  • Familiarity with sentence structure and legal documentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes and case laws related to corrections.
  • Experience in a correctional environment.
