About the position

The Correctional Treatment Specialist (Case Manager) plays a crucial role in fostering a humane and secure environment within correctional facilities. This position is responsible for preparing individuals for successful reentry into society by conducting counseling sessions, developing release plans, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure the inmates' needs are met. The Case Manager acts as a liaison between inmates and external resources, focusing on rehabilitation and adjustment techniques to help individuals reintegrate into their communities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct group guidance sessions addressing institutional adjustment and release planning.
  • Provide individual counseling to inmates, focusing on their personal issues and adjustment techniques.
  • Develop and prepare special progress reports for parole and transfer considerations.
  • Correspond with attorneys, judges, probation, and parole officers regarding inmate cases.
  • Prepare diagnostic studies and evaluate information reflecting developmental and circumstantial factors for assigned inmates.
  • Act as a liaison with other units and institutional employees regarding inmate behavior.
  • Report inmate program progress to the U.S. Parole Commission and assess readiness for release.
  • Coordinate case management services with other correctional disciplines.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • A degree with at least 24 semester hours in behavioral or social sciences, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a 4-year degree.
  • For GL-07: One year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
  • For GL-09: Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
  • Experience in casework in a correctional institution or criminal justice setting, or counseling experience with diagnostic or treatment planning skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in providing case management services to local inmate populations.
  • Knowledge of casework theories, methods, and guidelines.
