About the position

The Corrections Counselor 1 position at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Phoenix offers a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about helping others improve their well-being. The work schedule for this position is full-time, consisting of a 40-hour work week with hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute lunch break. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55, making it an attractive option for those looking to build a long-term career in corrections. The starting salary for this role ranges from $53,161.00 to $80,848.00 annually, although in some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Responsibilities

  • Provide professional counseling services to inmates at SCI Phoenix.
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions and casework services.
  • Assist inmates in obtaining information regarding community resources and opportunities.
  • Develop, maintain, and present records and reports for managing an inmate caseload.
  • Participate in planning and making recommendations on re-entry services for inmates.

Requirements

  • Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or
  • A bachelor's degree in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of the job.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
