The Corrections Counselor 1 position at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Phoenix offers a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about helping others improve their well-being. As a member of the Treatment Team, you will be responsible for providing professional counseling services and casework management to inmates. This role involves conducting individual counseling sessions, managing inmate caseloads, and assisting inmates in accessing community resources and opportunities. You will also be tasked with developing, maintaining, and presenting records and reports related to your casework. Additionally, you will participate in planning and making recommendations regarding re-entry services for inmates, ensuring they have the support needed for successful reintegration into society. The work schedule for this position is full-time, consisting of a 40-hour work week with hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute lunch break. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55, making it an attractive option for those looking to build a long-term career in corrections. The starting salary for this role ranges from $53,161.00 to $80,848.00 annually, although in some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Responsibilities
- Provide professional counseling services to inmates at SCI Phoenix.
- Conduct individual counseling sessions and casework services.
- Assist inmates in obtaining information regarding community resources and opportunities.
- Develop, maintain, and present records and reports for managing an inmate caseload.
- Participate in planning and making recommendations on re-entry services for inmates.
Requirements
- Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or
- A bachelor's degree in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of the job.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
