About the position

The Corrections Deputy position at Jackson County Jail involves providing care, custody, and security for inmates housed in the facility. The role requires successful completion of specific tests and entails various responsibilities including inmate processing, maintaining security, assisting inmates with personal needs, and preparing records and reports. The position is full-time with a pay rate of $24.88 per hour, and offers additional compensation for second and third shifts.

Responsibilities

• Processes inmates including searching, recording background information, completing necessary forms, and securing property.
• Maintains constant security of the jail and inmates by conducting regular checks and searches for contraband.
• Assists inmates with personal needs by distributing medications, toiletries, and responding to requests.
• Escorts inmates to visits and supervises recreation, visitation, and religious services.
• Monitors inmate behavior and takes appropriate action in case of fights or property damage.
• Answers inquiries at the Jail information desk and provides information related to inmate status and jail procedures.
• Prepares inmate records and reports, logs money deposits, and maintains shift activity logs.
• Operates LEIN to obtain criminal history information and checks for outstanding warrants.
• Assists Road Patrol Deputies with court security as needed.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent required.
• Some college advanced coursework in correctional administration or similar training preferred.
• Some experience related to law enforcement or corrections preferred.
• Successful completion of EMPCO written and Local Corrections Office Physical Agility Test (LCOPAT) required.
• Ability to be LEIN certified.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in GIS or mapping software.
• Knowledge of photographic, audio, and video equipment.
• Ability to use body cameras and jail management software.
