About the position

The Corrections Manager III at Kulani Correctional Facility is a permanent, full-time position responsible for overseeing the operations and maintenance of the facility. This role functions as a warden, ensuring the provision of appropriate care, custody, and services to inmates. The manager is tasked with developing and implementing security and control plans, supervising educational and rehabilitative programs, and ensuring safe living conditions, including medical and food services. The position also involves directing the maintenance and repair of the facility's physical plant. In this role, the Corrections Manager III will plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate correctional activities related to custodial care and treatment services for inmates. The manager is responsible for formulating, evaluating, and revising policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. Additionally, the position requires determining budgetary, staffing, and resource needs to effectively manage the facility's operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of corrections management principles, human behavior, and the criminal justice system. They will be expected to manage the facility's operations effectively, analyze problems, and develop alternative solutions. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, and the capacity to act decisively in emergencies. The Corrections Manager III will also be responsible for preparing reports and maintaining cooperative relationships with governmental and private agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operations and maintenance of the correctional facility.
  • Develop and implement security and control plans and procedures.
  • Supervise educational, vocational training, counseling, and recreational programs for inmates.
  • Ensure safe and sanitary living conditions for inmates.
  • Direct the maintenance and repair of the facility's physical plant.
  • Formulate, evaluate, and revise policies and procedures for facility operations.
  • Determine budget, staffing, and resource requirements for the facility.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports on facility operations and inmate management.
  • Act quickly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working agreements with other agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in sociology, psychology, criminology, penology, criminal justice administration, or a related field.
  • Two years of responsible professional experience in a criminal justice or related social service program providing rehabilitative services to law offenders.
  • Three years of professional work experience demonstrating responsibility for the direction and coordination of a major component of a correctional facility or program operation.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of corrections management and the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to manage operations, formulate policies, analyze problems, and prepare reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing and evaluating rehabilitation programs.
  • Knowledge of administrative processes associated with operations management.
  • Managerial aptitude or potential.
