Corrections Officer Trainee - SCI Phoenix

About the position

The Corrections Officer Trainee position at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix is designed for individuals dedicated to public service and safety. This role involves participating in formal training and on-the-job assignments to develop skills in the custody and supervision of inmates. Trainees will work under the direct supervision of experienced corrections officers, focusing on maintaining security and providing guidance to inmates.

Responsibilities

• Participate in formal training sessions and on-the-job assignments.
• Monitor the movement and activities of inmates in various areas of the facility.
• Conduct periodic and unannounced rounds, head counts, and security checks.
• Prepare written reports on inmate behavior and incidents.
• Respond to emergency situations as they arise.
• Provide advice and guidance to inmates regarding correctional processes and rules.
• Work a 40-hour work week with shifts to be determined, including weekends and holidays.

Requirements

• Must successfully complete basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
• Ability to perform essential job functions as required by the position.
• Successful completion of a background investigation, medical examination, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a law enforcement or security role.
• Knowledge of sociology and psychology as it relates to inmate behavior.
