About the position

The Corrections Program Coordinator position is a vital role within the Macomb Correctional Facility, focusing on delivering evidence-based programming to inmates. The primary responsibility of this position is to become a content expert and Master Trainer in cognitive prisoner programming, which includes Violence Prevention Programming and other skills development programs for prisoners. The coordinator will attend necessary training sessions to gain expertise in these areas and will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the development and implementation of new training curricula aimed at enhancing prisoner skills and knowledge for successful reentry into society. In collaboration with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) Training Division, the coordinator will create a structured process for reviewing and designing curricula that integrates the prisoner reentry model into all skills development initiatives. This role also involves identifying the specific knowledge and skills that prisoners need to effectively implement new operating procedures. The coordinator will work closely with CFA staff, providing ongoing technical assistance to those responsible for facilitating prisoner programs within correctional facilities. Additionally, the position may require performing other duties as assigned, ensuring that the programming aligns with the overall goals of the corrections department.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based programming in CFA, including becoming content experts and Master Trainer.
  • Attend necessary trainings to become a content expert in delivering cognitive prisoner programming.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the development and implementation of new training curricula for prisoner skills.
  • Identify the knowledge and skills needed by prisoners to implement new operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with MDOC Training Division to develop a train-the-trainer process for embedding expertise among CFA training staff.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to CFA staff responsible for prisoner skill development and program facilitation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, child development, physical education or recreation, sociology, school social work, social work administration, educational psychology, family relations, human services, or theology.
  • For Corrections Program Coordinator 10: One year of professional experience providing services to inmates, parolees, or probationers in a correctional setting equivalent to a Corrections Program Coordinator 9, Prison Counselor 9, or Parole/Probation Officer 9.
  • For Corrections Program Coordinator P11: Two years of professional experience providing services to inmates, parolees, or probationers in a correctional setting, including one year equivalent to a Corrections Program Coordinator 10, Prison Counselor 10, or Parole/Probation Officer 10.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master Trainer certifications in designated evidence-based and prison-based Prisoner Reentry programs.
