New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Corrosion Engineer to monitor and maintain the cathodic protection systems of transmission and distribution lines within the guidelines of accepted company policies and procedures, and federal and state guidelines for minimum pipeline safety as it pertains to corrosion control of underground steel pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design and installation of cathodic protection systems on the Company's transmission and distribution pipeline systems.
  • Reviews completed work orders, field checks and enters data in records system.
  • Conduct annual cathodic protection monitoring surveys and perform troubleshooting of CP system not meeting the protective criteria.
  • Monitor transmission and distribution systems under protection in accordance with Company standards and Federal and State regulations to assure continuing protection.
  • Monitors all impressed current cathodic protection rectifiers and interference mitigation bonds, atmospheric and isolated services, and short pipe sections as per company standards and federal/state regulations.
  • Conducts intercompany corrosion field testing with other owners of underground structures and cathodic protection systems and evaluates data to ensure no detrimental effects on Company's facilities.
  • Lends technical assistance to other Corrosion Engineers and Corrosion Technicians.
  • Inspect contractor installing CP system for accuracy and completeness of work.
  • Learn a new skill set that is beneficial amongst peers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university required, preferably electrical or mechanical.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in complete cathodic protection surveys including steel pipe coating inspection, atmospheric monitoring and repair of cathodic protection system is required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Other CP related work experience with Certification Association for Materials Protection & Performance (AMPP, formerly NACE) certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS preferred.
  • Must be proficient with GIS/GPS and in the use of computer, including the use of basic software such as MS Word, MS Excel.
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Must have basic knowledge of natural gas pipeline systems, including, familiarity with the hazards of natural gas.
  • Individual must meet 'Operator Qualifications' requirements as defined under 49CFR 192 Subpart N.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification Association for Materials Protection & Performance (AMPP, formerly NACE) certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS preferred.
