About the position

The Corrosion Technician position at Energy Transfer involves applying corrosion knowledge and skills to maintain and repair equipment, facilities, and systems within gas and liquid facilities and pipelines. The role focuses on ensuring the integrity of cathodic protection systems, compliance with regulatory requirements, and conducting preventive maintenance tasks to mitigate corrosion-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design, installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems within pipeline systems and facilities.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and complete associated documentation (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
  • Investigate and analyze corrosive conditions for existing and proposed facilities.
  • Ensure corrosion control and compliance for cathodically protected pipelines and facilities.
  • Conduct pipe-to-soil potential surveys and document findings in the corrosion database.
  • Evaluate protective coating conditions and perform necessary repairs.
  • Understand pipeline internal corrosion mechanisms and perform related testing and analysis.
  • Perform cathodic protection design and current requirement calculations.
  • Generate and maintain reports covering rectifiers, bonds, and corrosion control.
  • Install, maintain, and repair rectifiers, anodes, and test stations.
  • Evaluate stray currents and mitigate their effects on facilities.
  • Read and interpret pipeline maps and engineering drawings.
  • Use safety equipment in hazardous areas and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Train other technicians and evaluate their skills as needed.
  • Participate in regulatory audits and safety programs.
  • Inspect crew welds for quality during corrosion activities.
  • Comply with safety policies and perform lockout/tagout procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license in state of residency.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite products.
  • Ability to train other technicians and sign off on qualifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate of Applied Science - Corrosion Technology.
  • NACE Corrosion Technician or Corrosion Technologist Certification.
  • NACE CP level II certification.
  • Welding school qualifications for inspection of welds.
