About the position

We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Accountant to perform a combination of cost accounting tasks on production contracts and provide general accounting support at month-end closings. The ideal candidate will analyze material, labor, and overhead cost variances, provide oversight, analysis, and reporting of company inventory, and manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end cost accounting close requirements to meet corporate deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a combination of cost accounting tasks on production contracts and provide general accounting support at month-end closings.
  • Analyze material, labor, and overhead cost variances.
  • Provide oversight, analysis, and reporting of company inventory.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, analyze invoicing, reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, assign account coding, and approve expenditures.
  • Create and update new standard costs as requested.
  • Assist with the annual standard cost roll for various business groups.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end cost accounting close requirements to meet corporate deadlines.
  • Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries as part of the month-end close process.
  • Prepare cost accounting reports to monitor manufacturing expenses and inventory trends.
  • Review and explain month-end manufacturing variances between actual and standard costs.
  • Monitor and observe cycle counts, perform monthly account reconciliations, and input data into the corporate central database.
  • Manage the monthly scrap process.

Requirements

  • Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams with multiple priorities.
  • Experience with complex software systems.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and experience identifying root causes.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field.
