About the position

Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is currently seeking a Cost Accountant in our Finance and Administration Department to join our team. This will be a full-time role, reporting to the Controller. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience with Cost Accounting and a Bachelor's Degree in either Finance or Accounting. This position is onsite in our Marietta, GA main office. The Cost Accountant will perform advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimates for all Commercial and Roadwork project costs to actuals and the related projections, update the corresponding WIP schedule and prepare a variety of related budget and ad hoc reports. The role involves performing quarterly audits and monthly reviews on active projects, reviewing costing results to ensure proper accounting of quantities and costs, and coordinating with field personnel regarding possible quantity, billing, or cost discrepancies. Additionally, the Cost Accountant will analyze the performance of construction projects against their estimates, conduct various analyses of cost and quantities for management, set up a variety of allocations, budget revisions, and forecasts for management, and assist with the preparation and review of Financial Statements. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimates for all Commercial and Roadwork project costs to actuals and related projections.
  • Update the corresponding WIP schedule and prepare a variety of related budget and ad hoc reports.
  • Perform quarterly audits and monthly reviews on active projects.
  • Review costing results to ensure proper accounting of quantities and costs.
  • Coordinate with field personnel regarding possible quantity, billing, or cost discrepancies.
  • Analyze performance of construction projects against their estimates.
  • Conduct various analyses of cost and quantities for management.
  • Set up a variety of allocations, budget revisions, and forecasts for management.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of Financial Statements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum two to three years' experience with cost accounting.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills, and Essbase or ability to utilize a similar analytical database software.
  • Understanding of accounting procedures, monthly close, project management/construction accounting concepts, and unit costing.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously to manage workload and deliverables, and manage confidential information.
