About the position

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Cost Accounting Manager in Canaan, CT. This position is a key member of the onsite finance team and serves as a financial business partner at the plant. The Cost Accounting Manager will report directly to the Plant Controller and will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting financial performance. This role involves close collaboration with the Operations Finance Team on various processes and analyses related to annual plant budgeting, quarterly forecasting, month-end closings, and other ad-hoc reporting. The Cost Accounting Manager will play a crucial role in the creation, validation, analysis, and communication of financial and operational data related to cost improvements, capital budgeting (CB2 preparation), and capital processes. The responsibilities of this position include continuous improvement project analysis, capital and CB2 development and analysis, and new product cost development. The Cost Accounting Manager will support the Plant Controller and partner with the finance team to ensure that standard costs are accurate and align with the cost improvement objectives set by Operations. This role also involves validating production volumes, analyzing leverage, and ensuring that productivity factors meet expectations. The manager will work closely with Operations and Strategic Sourcing to minimize material inflation and ensure that manufacturing variances to standard and start-up costs are accurate. Additionally, the Cost Accounting Manager will assist in the preparation of capital expenditure authorizations and capital spending analysis, support capital budgeting, forecasting, depreciation, and reporting requirements, and analyze inventory levels to ensure they meet ISC/Operations targets. Compliance with GAAP, legal/statutory, and BD internal accounting policies is also a critical aspect of this role, along with reviewing the annual physical inventory and/or cycle-count program to ensure accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Plant Controller in ensuring the site meets compliance to GAAP, legal/statutory, and BD internal accounting policies
  • Review annual physical inventory and/or cycle-count program to ensure accuracy

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required with a focus in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of capital budgeting preferred including IRR/NPV principles and product costing methodologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment under pressure with tight deadlines and handle multiple, detail-oriented tasks
  • SAP experience preferred
