About the position

The Cost Accounting Manager will lead the production and cost accounting team, playing a crucial role in maintaining accurate item costs within the system. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that are essential for the smooth operation of the accounting department. The manager will ensure that product costs are accurately maintained, which is vital for effective financial reporting and decision-making. Additionally, the role includes overseeing the accuracy of bills of materials and ensuring that daily production entries and reports are completed and reviewed in a timely manner. In this position, the manager will enforce company policies and procedures related to production and cost accounting, ensuring compliance and consistency across the board. The role also requires assisting with production planning and inventory control activities, which are critical for maintaining operational efficiency. The manager will be responsible for identifying, researching, and explaining variances and trends to management, providing valuable insights that can influence strategic decisions. Moreover, the Cost Accounting Manager will prepare monthly reports for management, assist with audits related to costing, inventory, and production, and continuously engage with production management to ensure that appropriate costing procedures are being followed. This position also involves close collaboration with the Purchasing and Accounts Payable departments to streamline processes and improve workflow. Overall, the Cost Accounting Manager will play a key role in supporting the financial health of the organization by ensuring accurate cost accounting practices are upheld.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the production and cost accounting team.
  • Maintain accurate product costs in the system.
  • Ensure accurate bills of materials are maintained in the system.
  • Complete and review daily production entries and reports.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures related to production and cost accounting.
  • Assist with production planning and inventory control activities.
  • Identify, research, and explain variances and trends to management.
  • Provide cost input for projects such as bids and new product development.
  • Prepare monthly reports for management.
  • Assist with audits related to costing, inventory, and production.
  • Engage with production management to ensure appropriate costing procedures are followed and issues are resolved.
  • Work closely with the Purchasing and Accounts Payable departments to identify opportunities for workflow and process improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of organization.
  • High level of confidentiality and discretion is required.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with foreign currency and importing is a plus.
