About the position

The Manager, Cost Accounting is a pivotal role within MasterBrand, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Cost Accounting. This position is integral to supporting the performance management of the Liberty and Statesville manufacturing operations. The Manager will be responsible for a variety of financial functions including budgeting, forecasting, monthly close processes, compliance, reporting, performance analysis, and special projects as they arise. The role demands a high level of collaboration and the ability to manage multiple priorities across various functions and levels within the organization. A strong foundation in accounting, finance, financial control, systems, information analysis, and reporting is essential for success in this position. In this role, the Manager will provide financial support for the Liberty and Statesville Operations, conducting root cause analysis and identifying performance improvements for the operations teams. Responsibilities include assisting with the preparation and review of the annual budget, periodic forecasts, and operating plans, as well as performing assigned close tasks accurately and timely. The Manager will prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and profitability assessments on product lines and capital investments. Ensuring financial integrity is crucial, as the Manager will follow established procedures and internal controls in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and MasterBrand policies. The position also involves financial modeling, trend and sensitivity analyses, and maintaining the accuracy of standard costing. The Manager will prepare and coordinate capital expenditure requests and participate in long-term capital planning while supporting inventory and asset control. Continuous improvement initiatives are a key focus, and the Manager will actively participate in Kaizen and Lean events. Developing a deep understanding of MasterBrand's strategic business units will enable the Manager to leverage insights and provide value-added recommendations. Teamwork is essential, as the Manager will collaborate with finance management and staff, sharing information and ideas while seeking constructive feedback. Overall, this role is vital in positioning MasterBrand for growth and identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial support for Liberty and Statesville Operations including root cause analysis and highlighting performance improvements to the operations teams.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of the annual budget, periodic forecasts, and operating plans.
  • Perform assigned close tasks accurately and timely.
  • Prepare assigned journal entries and account reconciliations and substantiations.
  • Perform profitability assessments on product lines, capital investments, and other business decisions.
  • Ensure financial integrity by following established procedures and company internal controls in accordance with GAAP and MasterBrand policies.
  • Perform financial modeling and trend and sensitivity analyses.
  • Assist in the maintenance and accuracy of standard costing.
  • Prepare and coordinate capital expenditure requests and participate in long-term capital planning.
  • Support inventory and other asset control.
  • Develop detailed knowledge of accounting systems including Oracle Cloud Management, Oracle PBCS/Smartview, Friedman/AS400, BlackLine.
  • Maintain professional and technical accounting knowledge through appropriate training and education.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and Kaizen and Lean events.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of all MasterBrand strategic business units and leverage ideas from other reviews and co-workers.
  • Demonstrate teamwork by collaborating with Finance management and staff, sharing information and ideas, and accepting constructive feedback.
  • Participate in company efforts related to ethics and compliance activities.
  • Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Accounting (Finance, Economics, or equivalent also to be considered).
  • Certified Public Accountant (or Chartered Accountant equivalent), Certified Management Accountant, and/or Master of Business Administration preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience - with manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, Sarbanes Oxley, cost accounting, and accounting acumen.
  • Positive, solution-oriented attitude and approach.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to shape complex data into meaningful operational analysis.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and manage a diverse spectrum of tasks and responsibilities timely.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) with intermediate or advanced Excel skills required.
  • Knowledge and experience with ERP and/or MRP systems such as Oracle and Mainframe preferred.
  • Ability to travel 5% annually (domestic).
