About the position

In this vital role, you will be a member of the Global Cost Accounting team at Amgen, responsible for the consolidation and analysis of global inventory and cost of sales. The Cost Accounting Manager will perform inventory accounting for specific Amgen manufacturing sites and will be accountable for managing and reviewing the work of an outsourced provider that supports this team. Familiarity with international accounting and intercompany processes, along with prior cost accounting experience, is preferred due to Amgen's extensive international operations across over 75 countries. As a global biopharmaceutical company with over $20 billion in revenue, the Cost Accounting Manager will handle high-value intangibles, mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions, complex manufacturing, financing transactions, and research and development activities. Your responsibilities will include performing and reviewing sophisticated journal entries, general ledger account analysis, and reconciliation for both SAP and consolidation tools. You will prepare and review audit schedules, addressing questions from internal and external auditors, and develop highly detailed financial schedules such as footnotes, month-end flash reports, accounting memos, and other ad hoc schedules as required by your supervisor. You may also lead and review accounting control functions and reporting requirements, including inventory reserves, pre-approval manufacturing, standard costing, and excess capacity analysis. Special projects aimed at improving accounting processes, including digital initiatives, will also be part of your role. You will consolidate, analyze, and report global inventory balances by product/site and perform detailed monthly variance analysis. Collaborating closely with local Finance teams will be essential to execute Amgen's operational strategy. Additionally, you will calculate and record intercompany profit-in-inventory (PII) eliminations monthly to ensure compliance with US GAAP and support quarterly SOX process certification by compiling, sampling, and reviewing control documentation. Participation in the annual standard costing process and ad hoc updates as required by manufacturing and distribution sites will also be expected. You will actively support key business initiatives impacting Cost Accounting processes and perform all assigned monthly accounting close activities, including inventory, inventory reserves, pre-approval, excess capacity analysis, manufacturing variances analysis, and journal entries. Interaction with Amgen's senior and mid-level management will be a regular part of your responsibilities, and you will maintain a strong internal control focus while seeking opportunities to streamline processes and cross-train with peers.
