About the position

The Cost Management Campus Lead at Microsoft is a field-based role focused on overseeing the commercial management of construction projects, particularly in the data center sector. This position requires a deep understanding of project estimation, vendor management, and cost reporting, ensuring that all financial aspects of construction projects are managed effectively. The role is integral to supporting the growth and efficiency of Microsoft's cloud operations, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and adherence to company values.

Responsibilities

  • Deep understanding of the commercial management of the General Contractor (GC) from liaison with procurement on RFP documents to final payments and agreement of final accounts.
  • Detailed estimation of the project based on local design documents.
  • Agreement of estimates with the GC during design development and agreement of the contract sum.
  • Pay application assessment and approval for the GC, all equipment vendors, and all project support consultants.
  • Estimation and commercial agreement of all change orders.
  • Draft commercial detail and supporting documents for all funding requests.
  • Review and agreement of all GC procurement of subcontract packages including approval of sub contract Letters of Authorization (LOAs).
  • Commercial review of all disputes that may arise.
  • Commercial management of all other program vendors, including presenting proposals to head office for purchase order approval and approving invoices for all project vendors.
  • Final account agreement and closeout for all vendor accounts.
  • Manage the Cost Management firm contracted to provide commercial support in the region.
  • Assist in the procurement of Cost Management firm.
  • Manage resources allocated to projects to ensure appropriateness in number and quality.
  • Regular Monthly Business Updates (MBUs) with cost management firms.
  • Work with the Cost management firm, GC, and project controls to ensure full suite of cost reports are available for review by Redmond on a monthly basis.
  • Provide the PER (funding) team all commercial support necessary for funding intervals and commercial information needed for funding requests.
  • Provide commercial support on business cases, value engineering studies, and change control as design evolves.
  • Work with site selection team to provide constructability reports and site-specific comparative estimates on candidate sites.
  • Review current commercial processes in the region and develop these into a commercial playbook.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years related experience OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing the estimating or commercials on a major construction portfolio.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • 12+ years experience working on data center projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related experience OR equivalent experience.
