About the position

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) administers occupational therapy to patients in their homes, following physician orders and care plans under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist and Clinical Manager. This role focuses on improving patients' physical disabilities and enhancing their quality of life through tailored therapy services.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to established Agency policies and procedures.
  • Improve or minimize residual physical disabilities of the patient.
  • Return the individual to optimum and productive level within the patient's capabilities.
  • Participate with all other home care personnel in patient care planning.
  • Perform all skilled procedures as ordered by physician and according to the plan of care established by the OT.
  • Consult with OT regarding change in treatment.
  • Instruct patients and family members in home programs and fine motor movement exercises.
  • Participate in in-service education and present inservice programs as assigned.
  • Participate in QA-PI activities as assigned.
  • Attend all patient care conferences as scheduled.
  • Prepare medical records and update care plans for each patient visit in a timely manner as per Agency policy.
  • Perform services planned, delegated and supervised by the OT.
  • Assist in preparing clinical and progress notes.
  • Participate in educating the patient and family.
  • Perform maintenance therapy services under a maintenance program established by a qualified therapist.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Maintain certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc.
  • Currently certified in the state(s) in which practicing.
  • Licensed or regulated as an Occupational Therapy Assistant by the state, if applicable.
  • Two years of experience preferred.
