About the position

The Custodian Lead at Cottonwood Elementary is responsible for overseeing the cleaning operations of the school facilities. This role involves leading a team of custodial staff, ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of the school environment, and coordinating cleaning tasks. The position requires training new employees, conducting inventory of cleaning supplies, and performing various cleaning duties. The Custodian Lead works under the supervision of the Principal and the District Operations & Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Lead and work alongside a cleaning team to ensure assigned areas are cleaned.
• Train new custodial employees and respond to their questions and concerns.
• Provide input for recognition, discipline, and assist in evaluations of assigned staff.
• Conduct monthly inventory of cleaning materials and coordinate ordering with warehouse personnel.
• Wash and scrub walls, lavatory fixtures, windows, and other surfaces.
• Service soap dispensers and towel boxes.
• Clean floors by vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and polishing.
• Dust and polish woodwork, furniture, and glass items.
• Remove spots and graffiti from various surfaces.
• Empty and clean wastepaper baskets and refuse containers.
• Clean whiteboards, trays, and erasers.
• Operate power sweepers, polishers, and other cleaning equipment.
• Move and adjust furniture and supplies as needed.
• Plan and prepare for yearly cleaning duties.
• Strip, seal, and wax floors.
• Clean and shampoo rugs and carpets.
• Perform basic landscaping care and report maintenance issues.
• Conform to safety standards and perform other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED, college, technical or trade school transcript).
• Six months of experience as a custodian for Lyon County School District.
• Ability to lead assigned staff and plan work effectively.
• Knowledge of custodial supplies and equipment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work and climb ladders.
