About the position

The Counsel, Marketing & Product role at Etsy is a full-time position focused on advising various teams on product strategy, operations, and compliance with payment laws and regulations. The position requires collaboration with product, marketing, and legal teams to ensure that Etsy's products and policies meet legal obligations while supporting business growth. The role is hybrid, requiring presence in the Brooklyn office once or twice a week, and involves working on a range of commercial agreements and providing legal counsel to support product development and marketing initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of US & international commercial agreements, including indemnities, limitations of liability, and intellectual property rights.
• Collaborate with product and marketing teams to design products while balancing commercial, compliance, and privacy concerns.
• Identify and resolve problems on end-to-end projects.
• Enhance and develop scalable processes for all stages of the contract lifecycle.
• Work with internal partners, legal teams, and outside counsel through clear communication and effective project management.
• Provide legal counsel on commercial contract strategy from start to finish.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) and admission to a state bar (preferably NY or CA).
• 3+ years of experience in both a law firm and in-house setting, focusing on product development and marketing for tech and e-commerce companies.
• Experience managing a portfolio of technology, marketing, operational, and commercial agreements.
• Ability to communicate legal concepts in plain English to technical experts and business leaders.
• Strong business, negotiation, and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with SAAS agreements and marketing and ad tech agreements.
• Familiarity with international payment laws and regulations.
