About the position

The Counseling Enriched Special Education Teacher at Morello Park Elementary is responsible for teaching children with various disabling conditions under the direction of the Principal and the Director of Student Services. This role focuses on delivering a tailored academic program, developing individualized educational programs (IEPs), and collaborating with other professionals to support students' unique needs. The teacher will also manage behavior programs and provide instruction in various skill areas to ensure students are prepared for academic and social success.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a daily academic program to pupils in a special class on a regular school campus.
  • Develop individual and group behavior management programs.
  • Develop and implement individualized educational programs in cooperation with parents and other team members.
  • Plan and implement appropriate integration experiences for pupils.
  • Provide individualized instruction in appropriate areas of pre-academics/academics, language, self-help, motor, pre-vocational, and socialization skills as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other professionals involved in the program for the child with disabilities, such as Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, Psychologists, and regular classroom teachers.
  • Adjust educational schedule on an individual basis to coordinate with OT, PT speech therapist and regular classroom teacher.
  • Communicate with parents.
  • Assess, create, adapt and apply learning methods and materials to meet needs of the children.
  • Train and guide Special Education Assistants assigned to the program.
  • Participate as a member of the IEP Team in assessing and planning activities for pupils enrolled in program, curriculum development and classroom instruction, classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct, child guidance principles and practices related to students with special education needs, problems and concerns of students with special needs, curriculum and lesson plan development to meet IEP goals, equipment operation related to special education students, terminology involved in special education programs, and behavior modification techniques.

Requirements

  • California Education Specialist Instruction Credential Mild/Moderate
  • English Learner Authorization (CLAD, SDAIE, ELD or 2042 Imbedded in credential)
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Three recent letters of recommendation (last 2 years)
